Meeting Notes (Monday, May 5, 2025)

Setting Expectations

  • Our coaches are high school students: 3 seniors and 2 freshmen.
  • Practices are not swim lessons—our focus is time in the water, not perfecting strokes.
  • We aim to keep it fun, safe, and positive.
  • Kids take cues from parents. If your swimmer is struggling, step away from the pool and let the coach take the lead to help your child stay focused.

What We're All About

  • We’re here to build friendships, confidence, and personal growth.
  • The focus is on each swimmer improving their own times—not on winning meets. We do not recruit, but guests are welcome.
  • Swimmers may "swim up" an age group for experience or to help fill races.

Communication & Contact

  • The email listed at the bottom of your handout reaches the full parent volunteer team (Aubrey, Michelle, Kelly, Kristina, and Meridith).
  • We'll try to centralize communication—most info will come up front and then ahead of meets.
  • For weather updates, we’ll use the Remind app and follow up with email.

Meet Logistics & Volunteering

  • We need parent volunteers to help at the pool and run meets. Each swimmer must have an adult volunteer signed up.
  • All meets will be listed in SwimTopia. Please mark your swimmer's availability for each meet—and for each child.
  • Rosters are finalized two days before a meet. You can make updates anytime before then.
  • Black suits are encouraged (jammers for boys, racing suits for girls), and we’re trying to get kids to wear swim caps for meets.
  • If you have concerns about how a meet is running or any logistics, please bring those to your team reps—they will work with the coaches to address it.

During the Season

  • Encourage swimmers to try new things, even if it’s not their best stroke—they’ll learn!
  • If your swimmer gets DQ’d, no worries—it’s part of learning.
  • Swim times are visible on ribbons and in SwimTopia.
  • A parent volunteer (Mary Beth) will lead a focus lane each week for small-group stroke work (3–4 swimmers at a time, schedule permitting).
  • If your swimmer needs to practice at a different time, please check with a rep first. Later practices have fewer coaches, and we want to make sure everyone is supported and safe.

Coming Up

  • Our Mock Meet is next Thursday, May 15! It's a great way for swimmers to experience a meet and for parents to get familiar with volunteer roles.
  • 6 & Unders will finish after the first half of each meet.
