FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a swim team?
Swim team is a team sport for boys and girls ages 5-18 that provides an opportunity to learn the art of competitive swim in a fun and structured environment.

Is swim team a substitute for swim lessons?
No. Your child should be able to swim 25 yards unassisted (with or without a kickboard) to participate in practice. This is a safety requirement for our team due to limited adult and teen assistants available to help with the extra young swimmers daily. If your child is age 4-5 and cannot swim unassisted across the pool we recommend signing them up for FLASH. FLASH is a swim lesson program for our younger swimmers in June. They will not compete in meets.

Will my swimmer need to complete a skills assessment at the start of the season?

New swimmers must be able to get safely across a 25-yard pool unassisted in a reasonable amount of time. The Head Coach will conduct a swim assessment for all new swimmers on the first and/or second night of practice.

Is my child eligible to join the swim team?

This year we’re asking that your child be 5 years old as of May 31st AND be able to safely cross a 25-yard pool unassisted or with a kickboard. If your child is age 4-5 and cannot swim unassisted across the pool we recommend signing them up for FLASH. FLASH is a swim lesson program for our younger swimmers in June. They will not compete in meets.

The swimmer's age group is based on the age of the swimmer on May 31. For example, if a swimmer that turns 7 on May 31 would race as a 7-year-old. But if that swimmer turns 7 on June 1, then he or she would race the whole season as a 6-year-old. This rule applies to all swim meets in our League. Here are the are six age groups:

1. 6 & Under

2. 7 & 8

3. 9 & 10

4. 11 & 12

5. 13 & 14

6. 15 & up

What is included in my registration fee?

How often do I have to practice?
Everyone is requested to attend the practices as often as possible, but practices are optional. The more you practice, the better you will swim.

Will my child swim at every meet?
Yes with the exception of FLASH swimmers. Nobody warms the bench. All swimmers get to participate in each of the schedule meets.

Is there a way for parents to get involved?

How much does it cost?
